NATIONAL RESCUE AWARD FOR SWIM TEACHERS & COACHES

NRASTC & NRASTC Light

NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for swim teachers working on poolside or in the water during programmed activities.

​

The NRASTC Light is a shorter version of the qualification that is suitable for swim teachers who have first aid back up available if called upon.

NRASTC & NRASTC LIGHT OVERVIEW

Duration

NRASTC is a 14 hour course delivered across 2 full days.

NRASTC Light is an 8 hour course delivered within 1 full day, or across 2 shorter days.

Content

1) The teacher, swimming pool and class management

2) Intervention, rescue and emergency action

3) CPR and first aid*

4) Assessment

*The full first aid element is not included within the NRASTC Light. CPR is still covered however if Lifeguard or First Aid training is required then the standard NRASTC should be completed.

Entry requirements

16+ years

Swim 50 metres

Submerge to the deepest part of the pool

Climb out the pool unaided

​

Assessment

Planned within this course is an end of course assessment. This includes oral questions, practical demonstration of rescues and practical display of first aid.

​

Renewal

The NRASTC and NRASTC Light are valid for 2 years from the date of the assessment.

​

To renew the qualification candidates must either complete a refresher course of 8 hours, or book a reassessment which will require they provide evidence of ongoing training within the previous 2 years.
