So what's changed?

What will you actually learn on a swimming teacher course in 2026? Here's everything you need to know.

Swim England's experts have been busy working on the brand new level 2 in teaching swimming qualification. That process has involved listening to swim schools and leisure centres around the country to make sure this latest version of the course is backed by insight, and we think this is the best version yet.

One of the most exciting changes is that we will be spending less time in the classroom and more time around the pool itself, because we want you to feel confident in the environment that you will actually be working in.  So with less focus on course work, and more focus on practical skills, you will be poolside ready without any compromise on quality.

Another shift is what we spend our time learning about. This new qualification reminds us of the level 2 courses from the 90s to 2000s, for all the right reasons! We’re returning to a course that focuses on technically understanding the strokes, executing precise demonstrations and grasping the skills which are needed to help a swimmer develop through their programme. This new qualification is approximately a 6 day course to cover all the content needed. This is made up of 38 hours tutor led time, with 14 hours of supported self study.

Not to forget that your course is awarded by Swim England Qualifications and professionally aligned and industry endorsed. In everyday language that means your certificate is recognised and respected. In fact, Swim England is the preferred qualification in all the venues that we support here at Three Whistles.

So with the right training and the right qualification you’ll be on the right track.
